According to the Post, there was an altercation between Beckham and bouncers at a New York City bar in July. Police were called to the scene.
A witness told the newspaper that Beckham "had to be restrained" by two other men and that he "put up a fight."
The 28-year-old was charged with misdemeanor assault, but the incident was not reported until a few days ago, which may have resulted in the delay in the Giants' game.
Beckham's agent, Adam Rothman, said the wide receiver would not discuss the matter.
A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Beckham is facing a felony assault charge.
"We've been advised that it's more than likely a misdemeanor charge," the source told Schefter.
The Giants open training camp on July 25.
Beckham missed 11 games last season with a broken ankle and was suspended for one game last season for refusing to leave a nightclub in Miami. He has had a series of off-the-field issues, including an arrest last year after he was accused of resisting arrest, lying to police about a stolen Louis Vuitton bag, and receiving stolen property.
